In 1966 the Charger changed their decal from yellow/blue two tone to a solid blue bolt. This was not done as a throw back look but to be perceived as tougher. Having the opportunity to speak with the late Sid Gilman on several occasions, he claimed the changes were made for those exact reasons. In fact he mentioned that his team wanted to be tough looking like the Packers. They even removed the bolts off the paints and added stripes like Greenbay. Of course many of these changes did not go over well and the team went back to the two tone bolt again the very next year.
