A move to their new stadium brought a
third consecutive 4-7 year but did not indicate to outsiders, the improved
level of play or recruiting, especially at "skill positions". Mike Williams
moved to FB and put up 781 yards while Jim Wingender, the other half of "The
W-W Express" gained 1070. 280-pound DT Mike Stensrud was injured in the
opener and out for the year and his brother Maynard had to hold down the MG
spot on a defense that started to break down late in the season. A new
stadium needed the team to be decked out in a new uniform. Thus the Cy's
decorated their Sunflower gold helmets on each side with a Cardinal block
letter "I" that had a white border. Within the "I" was the white lettering "ISU"
placed vertically, the letters stacked upon each other for an easily
identifiable look.
