Bruhn, who had settled on a white helmet shell for his squad, added two-inch red identifying player numerals to each side of the helmet. The “touch” that added distinction to the Badger headgear and would make it immediately identifiable, was the cardinal “W” logo on both the front and rear. On the field there was improvement to 6-3 going with a predominantly soph squad.  Sid Williams began the season at QB but moved to HB as soph Dale Hackbart, a strong runner, took over as the signal caller. HB Danny Lewis was again the bell cow, finishing behind Alan Ameche as the Badgers’ career rush leader and he then moved to the NFL, spending all but the final two years of his nine-year career with the Lions. Notre Dame transfer Bob Zemen was effective at FB and DB while end Dave Kocourek formed a good line tandem with guard and LB Dan Lanphear.
