Giant Size

Little in football has evolved more over the years than the helmet. The Giants' first versions were leather caps with flaps designed to protect the ears and scalp since interior line play involved considerable pulling and tugging. Influenced by the training headgear used by boxers, the football helmet was continually modified in the 1930's and 1940's to offer more protection from the blows to the head. It was during this period that the Giants' team colors also adorned the headgear. The plastic helmet and primitive, single-bar mouth guards came into vogue after World War II. The modern Giants helmet features a full-face mask with foam-and-air-cushioned padding around the head.
